Architecture Inspiration
As the development for A Dream's End continues, the architectural style for most parts of the game where it is relevant has more or less been decided.
I'm going for a very post-war Soviet era architectural style, something that is also very prevalent across the horror genre.
I think the main reason I feel so inclined to go with this style is the sheer size of most structures from the era. Making the player feel small and defenseless in comparison to the environment around them is a key part of what I believe will make this game fit the genre.
At the same time, I also want to provide a level of familiarity along with the haunting imagery of long-lost spaces.
Once I refine the outdoor area, I will finish the indoor apartment area, clean up the debug world, and then tuck it away as a teleport in the options menu for now. The "Play" button will instead take you to the inside of the apartment building (where the game will start on release).
This will give me a chance to finally start thinking linearly instead of all over the place (which i desperately need).
At this point, I will make a new dev-log and make the next alpha build available to the public to beta test.
Reminder that I've got a Discord server to talk about the game, give ideas, or report any bugs! Feel free to join it over at https://discord.gg/QdAqhjYtxC.
